Five Fine Furniture Finds – Karen’s Friday Five
Each of these Furniture Finds is local & family owned, open for many years; even generations. Sure, you can go to Ethan Allan or La-Z-Boy in Dickson City but why should you? These Wayne County businesses are ready to serve you with a personal touch and genuine interest, demonstrating that the customer is, indeed, king.
Van Gorder’s Furniture Store – Hawley – Lake Wallenpaupack – Honesdale
My kids and I love to hit the Hawley – Lake Wallenpaupack Van Gorder’s. The Honesdale store offers traditional styles; the Lake Wallenpaupack store has the rustic, “lake house” look. Find quality furniture and rustic souvenirs. Discover a huge carved bear statue, a giant stuffed moose, a waterfall picture, or a wildlife themed lamp. Nostalgic custom made signs and other Lake Wallenpaupack “stuff” is available as well. When visiting, be SURE to ask for the world’s best salesman, Scott Mosher. Just say “KATO” sent you; he’ll know what you mean!
Teeter’s Furniture – Hawley PA
Teeter’s Furniture has anchored Main Street in Hawley for over a century. Teeter’s is filled to the brim with fine quality traditional and rustic furniture choices, featuring friendly salespeople ready to assist. Their prices are competitive, the selection is broad, the service is exemplary. After you finish shopping at Teeter’s, be sure to scoot across the street to Fluff’s Deli for a delicious, gigantic sandwich and a piece of home made pie.
Blueberry Hill Furniture Village- Newfoundand PA
I’ve found my thrill…on blueberry hill (come on, you knew it was coming.) I am a bookophile. Not sure if that’s a real word, or not. I guess the right word is bibliophile, but bookophile seems less confusing. Yes, I’m a sniglets gal…
I associate being a book lover with Blueberry Hill because the first time I visited this hidden Wayne County treasure, I thought I died and ended up in book shelf heaven. I was amazed at the huge assortment of finished and unfinished solid wood furniture at very affordable prices. I went to buy one shelf came home with two. I’m dying to go back but my husband won’t let me.
Butler’s Furniture – Hamlin PA
Butler’s, my mother’s favorite furniture spot, is where I got my daughter’s beloved white daybed. Butlers has a nice variety of affordable and attractive furniture in all different styles. Expect friendly greetings here, too – these people really do take customer service seriously. Conveniently located just off of the Mt. Cobb Exit for I-84, it’s easy to find.
Doug Schmitt Antiques – Lake Ariel, PA
I can’t leave out antique furniture. I have a gorgeous baker’s cabinet my husband bought from Doug – it is a Christmas present that I will treasure forever. Similar to a Hoosier cabinet, this piece is the focal point of my dining room. Doug has an eclectic mix of antique furniture at any one time in his showroom in Lake Ariel. Going to Doug’s is like a treasure hunt; you never know what you’ll find.
