It’s another 2Tips4-2sDay – this time, here’s a solution to help sellers and buyers overcome – in a small but simple way – the obstacle of a tiny bathroom lacking space for towels and stuff.
Big bathrooms are definitely “in vogue”… many buyers want a spa like retreat complete with an indoor pool oversized soaking tub with a 63 inch LCD TV, separate shower stall, double-sink vanity with a mile of counter space, and room for a wet bar (just kidding on the wet bar.)
Unfortunately, the reality is, not many homes in the “affordable” price range offer such luxury, particularly older homes (where many bargains are.) Previously, homes were built with efficiency rather than luxury in mind. That said, there are ways to open up a small bathroom, making it appear more spacious (like switching a vanity sink for a pedestal or wall hung model, swapping an older toilet for a compact one, installing skylights or a larger window, adding mirrors, etc.)
But what if completely remodeling the bath isn’t possible and you simply need extra storage for towels & toiletries? An obvious solution is an over-the-toilet cabinet, but in a small bathroom, a bulky item like this can make the space seem even smaller.
I saw the shower rod/towel bar combo unit in a Better Homes & Gardens magazine and thought it to be the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Here’s a nifty way to hang towels to dry. My home has one bathroom, and believe it or not, no towel bars. (Husband is a carpenter, and 12 years ago we bought this house to “fix it up.” Many things have been given higher priority than the towel bars – a basement that floods, replacement windows, new rooof, silly things like that…)
The lack of towel bars makes it tricky when all five of us have taken our showers – what the heck do we do with our damp towels? Well, the kids ball them up and put them in a corner in their bedroom; I have to hunt them down. With this awesome contraption, we can all hang our towels in the bathroom – what a novel idea!

2. Wall Shelf & Towel Bar Combo Unit.
Here’s another small-space friendly shelf unit from Amazon.com. This would be an excellent choice for baths with wall or pedestal sinks, or simply to add some extra space without cluttering up the area with bulkier pieces.
It’s currently priced at $19.99. Naturally, when installing any shelf unit on a wall, verify the location of the studs or use an anchoring mechanism to securely fasten the unit.
With a small bathroom, less is best. Avoid busy patterns in curtains and towels and do not use too many strong colors. Keep things light, airy, and uncluttered – it’s amazing how much of an impact simple changes can make to transform a small bathroom from cramped to comfortable.
